BE EPICER @ CTE
At Cherokee Trail we focus on six traits, teaching and fostering them in our classrooms and school-wide in order to create learners who are strong academically and socially. They are:
ENTHUSIASM * PERSEVERANCE * INTEGRITY * COURAGE * EMPATHY * RESPECT
Read more on the EPiCER page!

This month, we will be focusing on ENTHUSIASM - here are the indicators of how this trait might look at school:
* I show a positive attitude at all times
* I am eager to learn
* I show active engagement throughout my day

FROM MUSIC - GEORGE HALLEY

Choir will be starting on Tuesday September 27th!
Choir will be for students in grades 4th, 5th and 6th and be capped at 45 students for the winter semester. Rehearsals will be in the music room in the mornings from 7:40-8:25 on Tuesdays between September 27th and December 6th. We will be performing our winter concert on December 6th at 6pm.  More information and the sign up google form can be found on Mr. Halley's music page on the CTE website and also HERE.
Also, directing a choir is challenging enough without having to play the piano at the same time, so if a parent would like to volunteer to be our piano accompanist for the choir season that would be greatly appreciated!

SEPTEMBER COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER

Hello Families!  We are off to a great start to this school year!  Over the past few weeks, I have visited every class in grades 3-6 to talk about my role as a school counselor and how I can support them.  I will be visiting the rest of the students over the next few weeks to do the same.  Our lesson included what domains I work with students in (social/emotional, career, academic).  I also shared that I visit classes to teach lessons and meet with some students in small groups or individually.

Classroom teachers also teach weekly lessons from our social-emotional learning curriculum called Second Step.  Second Step’s units cover skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving.

Does your child need additional support to learn/practice social skills?  Denver Behavioral Consultants facilitate social skills groups in the Parker area. Click for more information

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles Continue ....
As I write this, it is the day after our Fun Run. I tried really hard to arrange my day so I was able to spend time with each grade level. I was sort of successful at being outside, as I made it to all grade levels but K and 2nd. For the grades I got to watch, it was awesome to see how many of our parents showed up to support our students. The teachers were out there running, squirting water, and cheering for our students. It truly was a sight to see, and it reminded me of why I love my job: the students. We have such wonderful children here and to see them running, laughing, and truly enjoying themselves was amazing. It is also a very good reminder to me that school should be fun for our kids. Sometimes, I get bogged down with budget or staff issues or trying to problem-solve how we can better support students academically, and I forget about ensuring that students have fun and love coming to school. Thank goodness for the Fun Run. It was perfect timing.
On the home front, it is homecoming week this week in my house. This is the first year I have had my daughter for homecoming so I am now in charge of all kinds of things I was not prepared to be in charge of (luckily, the homecoming dress is taken care of). Mostly what I wasn't prepped for was the amount of Ubering I am going to have to do with really no clue about the timing of it all. For example, tonight is the bonfire at Legend which my daughter wants to go to. She does not want to go to the parade prior. Start time for the bonfire? "dusk". End time for the bonfire? no clue. So basically I have to take and then pick up my daughter with no idea when I need to do either. It's like I'm just going to be stuck in a holding pattern for the majority of this week. Looks like I need to download a few audiobooks as I might be just sitting in my car for long boring stretches this week. I am also seriously contemplating getting a black suit and black hat to wear so I perfectly match the description of a chauffeur - super.
That is it for this week. Stay tuned for next time when the Principal Chronicles continues....
