FROM TECH - ANNA HYLTON

ADD A HOME PRINTER TO SCHOOL CHROMEBOOKS (*optional)
If your child is using a school chromebook at home for the remote learning portion of their week, please see this tutorial for adding your home printer: link

WEB FILTER
Parents, please be aware that school devices being used at home will NOT have any web filters in place. Within the District we maintain extensive web-filtering, but only when devices are connected to the school wi-fi. That means that if your student is at home (on a school device or personal) then you must arrange for what ever web filtering and parental controls you see fit via your own Internet Service Provider.

STUDENT LOGIN CREDENTIALS
We have had many questions about how students should be logging in. Please see some information below, and feel free to contact me with additional questions:

Chromebooks:
K-3: will use their Clever badge to log in (available from classroom teachers)
   - if you don't have a Clever badge, use the 4-6 method
4-6: will use choose Add Person

then click on Sign in with a different account
and then enter their email address & password

Gmail/Google Classroom:
* if using Clever or a school device, the student will be automatically logged in to these accounts once in the Clever Dashboard or chromebook
* if using personal devices, use log-in using student's email address & password

Clever
This is a new tool for students in K-3 where they have a unique QR code or printed "badge" (available from classroom teachers) which is read by the device's camera and grants access - no typing of a username/password required. On devices without a camera, students will have to use their full email address & password (instructions).

COUNSELOR'S CORNER - SEPTEMBER

Did you know that ALL CTE students can have lunch from the cafeteria free daily through December effective immediately?  You can also pre-order weekly lunches for e-learning days at home. Click here for more information.

The school year is officially underway!  I am currently in the process of visiting each cohort in each class to teach a guidance lesson on building a classroom community and relationships.  I have also had the pleasure to meet with our newest students to Cherokee Trail.  It has been fantastic to see the students again!

Now that students are spending more time on electronic devices, it is wise to know some of the sites & apps that your child may come across.  Check out the articles below to become more familiar with them….

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles continue …

This past weekend my family celebrated two of the three major birthdays that we have in September. The first birthday day was my oldest daughter's 15th. We went to a restaurant called Vital Root over in the Highlands Neighborhood. She has been a vegetarian (or sugar-a-tarian) for a number of years so this was her choice. I was not sure what to expect from a grain free, dairy free, gluten free vegan restaurant. I wasn't exactly sure what was left that they could serve being so many things free. In the end, it turned out to be really good, I was pleasantly surprised. I'd go there again if it wasn't so far from our house. From there we went home to enjoy her caramel macchiato cake that she had ordered. I did point out to her that next year she should look for a cake not flavored after a drink. Alas her cake was also pretty good. I don't drink or even like coffee but if I were to ever consume an actual caramel macchiato from Starbucks (which I don't think would ever happen) it might actually taste a lot like the cake I ate. The only downside was the cake was made with instant coffee in it which contains caffeine (which I also hardly ever consume) so I spent most of the night staring at the ceiling wishing I would fall asleep.

The next day she was supposed to go to this Wonder Wonder place to take about 8 million pictures of herself and her friends but unfortunately her two friends she was supposed to go with couldn't make it at the last minute so we moved that excursion to a couple of weeks from now. At least now I should be able to go with them to check this place out.

The other birthday was my dad's 76th. Since my parents no longer live in Estes Park we were able to meet them half way in Westminster near where I grew up. To maximize our trip Renee and I decided to play the Par 3 golf course where I learned to hate golf as a kid. Renee has been REALLY into golf lately so we have been playing a lot (by playing I mean walking around with a bag full of iron and every once in a while, hitting a very tiny ball in a direction that no human would actually want to hit it). Renee thought I was crazy to think that an "easy Par 3" would cause me to hate golf, plus that was way back when we rode our dinosaurs so it HAD to be better now, right? Well it wasn't. Between the two of us, we lost 11 balls on the first three holes and every other sentence out of Renee's mouth was either "this course is stupid" or "no wonder you hated golf" or a combination of both sentences. In the end, it wasn't so bad and we had fun but vowed not to go back to that par 3 again. Ever. Like I mean, never ever.

All that is left now is Renee's 50th birthday party this weekend. Unfortunately due to COVID we had to cancel her traditional karaoke party but instead are renting a few bays at Top Golf (sense the theme here) to hang with friends and hopefully not fall off the top level.

Well, that is it for this week's episode - stay tuned for next week when I will wax a tale about all the fun and excitement of our Top Golf experience. See you next time when the Principal Chronicles continues...
