Safety First Our community is asking for a backup crossing guard at the corner of Clarke Farms Dr and Lamar Dr. The need is only when our routine crossing guard isn’t available. Please connect with me if you are interested in more information.

Evacuation Drill On Wednesday, September 19th, we’ll have our second Evacuation Drill (weather permitting). Please feel free to review the expectations with your student related to this drill. Our students and staff do such a great job with this drill!

CTE's expectations for students during an evacuation drill are as follows:

* classroom and exterior doors closed

* no voices during the drill (raise your hand if you have a need)

* walk safely and stay in line so your teacher can easily see/find you
* walk to the wooden fence on the west side of the field and stop

* stay in line and face the building so you can see and hear directions easily

* wait for directions from your teacher or administrator

Academic Excellence

Our staff’s academic goal this year is to increase students' writing scores. We are in the middle of gathering student data from a fixed writing prompt. During our Professional Development day on September 21st, we’ll look over the writing related to these prompts, work on interrater reliability, and look for learning trends related to writing. Once these trends are identified, we’ll create mini lessons to support students with these skills. We’ll also be learning the Expository instructional components of our new writing curriculum (Write From the Beginning and Beyond). It will be a great day of learning together! Student Council

Student Council had their first meeting this week. We had 57 students apply for a position on our Student Council. Our sponsors experienced a few rough days and sleepless nights as we worked together to determine the final cut score for the applicants. To include more students we increased the number of members on the council. We are so very proud of those who applied. We now have 29 members and are off to a running start. Thanks to our staff sponsors, Mrs. Coggan, Mrs. Duncan, Mr. Major, and Mrs. Weyhrich for volunteering their time to StuCo! Family Multicultural Night

Chaparral feeder schools are having a Family Multicultural Night to celebrate and share cultures in our community. We would like to celebrate the cultures of all our students and families from the United States and around the world. The event is on October 18, 2018 at Sierra Middle School from 5 to 7 p.m.  Please click here if you are interested in attending. We welcome all of our Chaparral Feeder families. FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles continue ... Wow, what a week for the weather!! It has been so nice outside I can hardly believe it's September. Welcome to Colorado I guess. I do feel a bit guilty as the East Coast prepares for what could be the worst storm to hit the area ever. Hope everyone there is prepared and stays safe. Back here at CTE, we have been plugging away and working hard. We have a few important things coming up that hopefully, you'll be able to take part in. First, we have our annual Fun Run to raise money for our school. This year we are going to focus our efforts on primary technology. We recently had to recycle a bunch of our primary iPads because they were so old they wouldn't update anymore, and we need to purchase some new ones. Next, we have our first School Accountability Committee meeting of the year coming up on Tuesday, September 18th from 5:30 - 7:00 at Cherokee Trail. All are invited and welcomed. We are discussing our current state and will begin to plan out the year. I will also be going over our testing data. Hope to see you there. Lastly, be on the lookout for our first EPIC assembly of the year. More information to come so stay tuned. On the home front, I did something pretty cool last weekend with my family. We went to a rabbit grooming party. I know what you are thinking, what on Earth is a rabbit grooming party? Basically, we drove to a rabbit sanctuary in Broomfield where they rescue rabbits which people have abandoned, and try to find a forever home for them. We got there and were shown into a room surrounded by tons of rabbit cages (allergies beware!!) and were given a chair and a towel. Once we laid the towel across our laps someone brought a rabbit to groom with this cool little brush. When our new friends were done, we raised our hand and someone brought the next rabbit. It was extremely therapeutic. My little guy needed lots of help so I worked on him the whole time, whereas my family went through several rabbits. Who would have thought that a rabbit grooming party would be so awesome? Well, that is it for this week. Stay tuned, in the upcoming weeks I'll be putting out my world famous Outdoor Ed edition. This year I'll be going on the second night which will be new to me.  That means I'll hit the barn dance and s'mores. Should have some pretty good stories to share. See you next time, when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
