We are in full swing of our CTE Gratitude Heart Project! Our StuCo Kindness Committee is working hard to fill our school with hearts! The student council Kindness Committee's focus is to spread kindness throughout our school by using positivity. Our dream is to have kids naturally doing kind things for others without even thinking about it. Be on the lookout for extra hearts to fill out as a family. Even with our youngest learners, one word or a picture makes an impact! We all have so much to be thankful for! This project is a reflection of our community inside AND outside of our school walls.
"Gratitude is our new Attitude."
NOVEMBER COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER
I began the month of November visiting the 1st and 2nd grade classes to read a book in honor of Veteran’s Day. It was heartwarming to see the compassion and pride our students have for our soldiers and their families. In 6th grade, we are starting a new unit from our Second Step curriculum that teaches about values and friendships. In 4th grade, we are also beginning a new unit from the MindUp curriculum that teaches students how to sharpen their attention and use sensory experiences to enhance memory, problem solving, relationships, creativity, and physical performance.

NOVEMBER HEART PROJECT - JEN JAHNER
As November kicks off, we swing into the season of gratitude and thankfulness. I've been talking with several staff members and parents about a Heart Project!!
Starting Monday, there will be paper hearts available around the building. I would love if every staff member and student fills out a heart about what they are thankful and grateful for. It can be a picture or writing. Staff and students can fill out more than one heart or as many hearts as they would like!! The idea is to fill all our halls with paper hearts and lift spirits!!
I encourage that teachers reach out to their families and have our CTE community to come in and fill out a heart or send home a heart for families to fill out!! It's a small gesture...BUT think about how cool it would be to see what we are all grateful for!!!
If you have any questions, reach out to me. I will be working with Caitlin Weyhrich and StuCo to get hearts made.
Once hearts are filled out, there will be a basket in the front office to put the hearts in. We have a few parents that want to come in to help put the hearts up in our hallways.
I'm thankful for this community!!

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER
The Principal Chronicles Continue ... Back again after another week has flown by. I am constantly amazed by how fast the school year passes. And this is even the slow part of the year; once the holidays are over the school year shifts into warp speed. Next thing you know, it will be summer again and another year will be in the books.
Personally, I am looking forward to Thanksgiving. Actually I am celebrating Thanksgiving twice this year since we don't have our girls this year. We will be heading up to Estes in a couple of weeks to celebrate (read, stuff our faces) to be with my parents, and then on Thanksgiving we will be heading to Evergreen to celebrate (read, stuff our faces x2) with Renee's sister.
For our trip to Estes, our biggest conundrum has been what to bring. My family is very traditional in what they like to serve on Thanksgiving and I personally take a great deal of pleasure in bringing food items that are anything from traditional (it's sad, I know, but it's so much fun). One year we were asked to bring the turkey so we brought an ice cream turkey from Baskin Robbins. It was awesome but fairly poorly received by my family, though we sure thought it was funny (we did bring an actual turkey breast as well).
Our plan for this year is to bring several "controversial" items (this is me smiling devilishly to myself). We are going to bring Tunis Cake. What is Tunis Cake? I have no idea but we watched an episode of the British Baking Championship and Renee is convinced she can make the cake. It should be interesting but I am pretty confident she will be able to pull it off. As for me, I am struggling with a little bit of inner conflict about what I want to bring. I cannot decide. I have narrowed things down to two (I may do both): I would really like to bring Challah bread (which I have made before) but add a little twist to it. Since Challah bread has three strands, I would like to have three different flavors of bread woven together into the braid. I've been debating going with a whole wheat bread strand, a white bread strand, and a raspberry bread strand and call it my Neapolitan challah. Of course, that may taste disgusting but look cool. Plus I talked to Ms. Levine and she mentioned adding a strand of cinnamon whole wheat which wouldn't be as cool visually but probably taste a lot better. My other option is to attempt to make Hot Cross Buns. Again we saw them on the British Baking Championship. They are a bit complex but definitely non-traditional which is the whole goal.
You may be wondering about our fascination with British Baking Championship. Well, it simply boils down to all of the female members of my family (which is all but me) like to speak to one another in a British accent. The show gives them all the fun words they like to say to one another such as calling each other "love". Always good times going on in our house.
Happy Wednesday and that is it for the week's edition. Stay tuned for next week when I just may reveal what exactly I am bringing for Thanksgiving even though I think most of my loyal readers could care less - but it's my attempt to create a slight cliffhanger to get you to read this strange blog again next week. See you next time when the Principal Chronicles continue.
