WHAT'S NEW AT CTE?

teams

This year CTE teams are celebrating notable engineers: Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and Leonardo DaVinci. Mr. Miller visited each classroom on Tuesday to reveal which team each would be a part of for the rest of the school year.
Each team has one classroom from each grade, K-6 - students earn points outside of class for following school rules and showing EPIC behavior!

FROM TECH - ANNA HYLTON All students heard from Mr. Miller and Mrs. Hylton
in their classrooms this week about EPIC'R behavior, and how it pertains to caring for our technology devices (ipads & chromebooks). Classroom teachers reviewed and sent home the CTE Student Device Contract for students and parents both to sign. This is a new tool for CTE to clearly communicate expectations and best practices for our school technology. Students will not have access to tech devices until their contract is signed and returned to their classroom teacher. Thank you for your support and partnership in maintaining good computer health at CTE!

AUGUST COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER  It's August - we're back! My name is Jane Steiner and I am the School Counselor at Cherokee Trail Elementary. I am so excited and honored to start another year with my amazing CTE family! I am committed to encouraging, supporting, and empowering our students to become their best selves. My primary task is to help ALL students become better learners by providing a comprehensive and developmental counseling program that meets their academic, personal/social, and career development needs.

I will be meeting with students individually and in small groups, conducting classroom lessons while incorporating the Second Step and MindUp curriculum, and collaborating with parents and staff. Support provided can be therapeutic, but the role of a school counselor is not to diagnose or provide therapy. I am able to provide temporary/short-term support to help students overcome acute issues having an impact on their school performance. I am a resource similar to the school nurse in that she can provide help, but refers out for more serious problems. Licensed mental health counselors are the appropriate resource to provide ongoing therapy sometimes needed by families and children. As the counselor, I have the privilege of providing support to every student at CTE. Confidentiality is respected, unless they plan on hurting themselves, hurting someone else, or someone is hurting them. Although I do not require parent consent, if you would like to request I meet with your child for a specific concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to a great school year and supporting all our wonderful students at CTE! FROM THE AP - ROBIN HUNT What a great start to our school year! The students appear happy to be back and in the swing of things.  A few reminders…

  • We encourage all students to line up with their classrooms before school. We have close to 70 kindergarten students lining up in front of the building each day and extra students creates a bottleneck at the front door. Also, preschool has started and this adds another layer of parents and children in the front of the school. Thanks for asking your students to line up with their classes around other parts of the building.
  • On Friday, we will have our first evacuation drill. We have practiced and reviewed procedures so we expect a smooth drill.
  • When accessing the carpool lane, please pull all the way forward to allow as many students as possible at to exit their vehicles quickly. Pulling all the way forward keeps everyone moving and prevents you from waiting in line so long.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER The Principal Chronicles continue ... Week two has come to an end. Normally I try to get the scoop done by Wednesday but today I am trying to knock it out on Friday morning. So many things around here are starting to get rolling, it's exciting and overwhelming at the same time. The good news is all the things we have going on all support our students in the best way possible. On the home front my oldest started HS yesterday. Holy cow does time fly by, just seemed like yesterday we were singing princess songs and watching Sofia the First. She is pretty excited and decided to join the Cross Country Team. I'm psyched she wanted to give it a shot but I think she underestimated what practice was going to look like. She was thinking that she would be running on flat ground for around a mile or so. In reality, it turned out to be 4+ miles on Green Mountain. Note to self: when picking a HS and wanting to be a runner, choosing a high school located on the side of a mountain will probably mean you'll be running all over that thing. Needless to say, she survived her first practice and did really well. My youngest is now a 7th grader which is pretty funny because she is at that awkward middle school age. She just makes me laugh every day by how goofy she is and makes me very glad I don't have to be in a middle school. Well that is it for this week. Coming soon, my video blog. I've been experimenting with the format but got a little hung up on my theme song. Pretty sad, I know. I'll be sure to keep you posted, so until next time, I'll see you when the Principal Chronicles continues...
