BE EPICER @ CTE
At Cherokee Trail we focus on six traits, teaching and fostering them in our classrooms and school-wide in order to create learners who are strong academically and socially. They are:
ENTHUSIASM * PERSEVERANCE * INTEGRITY * COURAGE * EMPATHY * RESPECT
Read more on the EPiCER page!

This month, we will be focusing on ENTHUSIASM - here are the indicators of how this trait might look at school:
* I show a positive attitude at all times
* I am eager to learn
* I show active engagement throughout my day

SEPTEMBER COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER

Hello Families!  We are off to a great start to this school year!  Over the past few weeks, I have visited every class in grades 3-6 to talk about my role as a school counselor and how I can support them.  I will be visiting the rest of the students over the next few weeks to do the same.  Our lesson included what domains I work with students in (social/emotional, career, academic).  I also shared that I visit classes to teach lessons and meet with some students in small groups or individually.

Classroom teachers also teach weekly lessons from our social-emotional learning curriculum called Second Step.  Second Step’s units cover skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving.

Does your child need additional support to learn/practice social skills?  Denver Behavioral Consultants facilitate social skills groups in the Parker area. Click for more information

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles Continue ....
It was Fun Run prize day this week which means our kids got to reap the rewards for all of their hard work during the Fun Run. On a side note, THANK YOU for all of the support our community gave us!! We raised a TON of money for the school and we are going to need every dollar this year. Hopefully soon, we will have a total amount raised but at this writing, we don't have that number yet.
One of the prizes for the Fun Run is the opportunity to throw a ball, hit a target, and (if successful) dump a bucket of water on the Principal's head. That Principal is me; it was time to pay the piper. Every year (9 and counting) I try and figure out a way to keep the water being dumped on my head from actually reaching my skin thus causing me to be really really cold. So far, for 9 years in a row, I have been unsuccessful.
In my first year, I totally forgot about it the night before so I was totally unprepared. Luckily Lisa Loomer brought me a towel at least. For the next few years I tried different combinations of layers to try and keep me warm (it seems like every year it is always cooler with a breeze and it's the breeze that really gets you). None of those tricks worked, so a few years ago I tried a waterproof jacket. Again, unsuccessful as the water just went right down my neck. So this year I thought of a new plan that may have finally cracked the code.
This year I wore a tight Underarmor under shirt, then I took a trash bag and poked head and arm holes in it and put it on. I was thinking that if the water got through the top of my jacket it would hit the trash bag and not get on my skin. Then I added another top and then my waterproof jacket to cover it all up. Did it work? Nope. The first bucket went straight on the inside of my jacket inside the trashbag and directly down my chest and down my legs. Super. From there, that process was repeated about 45 more times. Luckily, the kids really enjoy it and have a ton of fun so it makes nearly getting hypothermia every year worth it. Every year.
That is it for this week's edition, stay tuned next time when the Principal Chronicles continues....
