CTE Building Testing Schedules 2021:

25 Mar 2021

Dear CTE,

I wanted to update you on our upcoming state-mandated testing (CMAS) schedule. There have been decisions made at the state level (see description below) so our schedule for next week has changed. Since we are only testing one content area per grade level. Here is what our schedule will look like.

4th Grade - Math - 9:00 - 10:30

5th Grade - ELA - 10:40 - 12:10

6th Grade - Math - 10:40 - 12:10

April 20th - 22nd - eLearning students who have elected to take the test

eLearning 3rd Grade - ELA - 9:30 - 11:30

eLearning 4th Grade - Math - 11:45 - 1:00

eLearning 5th Grade - ELA - 9:30 - 11:30

eLearning 6th Grade - Math - 11:45 - 1:00

If our state does not receive the federal waiver (explained below) we will complete the other tests the following week. (It's confusing, I know.) If you have any questions please feel free to reach out.

Background On March 16, Governor Polis signed into law House Bill 21-1161 enabling the state to request a waiver to scale back the federally mandated end-of-year assessments. This would reduce the number of tests to only one per grade level and completely suspend science tests for spring 2021 (a full list of required tests can be found later in this document).

The waiver request was submitted to the U.S. Department of Education by the Colorado Department of Education on March 17. If the waiver is approved, the number of standardized assessments would be reduced for the current school year to only one per grade level. In addition, science assessments would be eliminated for spring 2021. DCSD Testing Window DCSD’s CMAS testing window is March 29-April 30. DCSD generally does not schedule CMAS testing in May to allow schools to focus on end-of-year celebrations and milestone events, such as commencement ceremonies. While Waiting for the Waiver Decision DCSD schools will be administering the CMAS subject tests which would still be required under House Bill 21-1161, should the federal waiver be approved.

CMAS Subject Tests Required Under HB 21-1161:

3rd Grade - English Language Arts
4th Grade - Math

5th Grade - English Language Arts

6th Grade - Math

Parents will still have the option to excuse their students from taking all assessments, if they wish to do so.

Tests Suspended Under HB 21-1161 (if Federal Waiver is Approved) The following tests would be suspended under HB 21-1161 (if the Federal waiver is approved).
3rd Grade - Math

4th Grade - English Language Arts

5th Grade - Math and Science

6th Grade - English Language Arts

Parents wishing to have their students tested in a suspended content area at their grade level will need to opt their students in for that specific test. DCSD will provide information and instructions for that process in the coming weeks. Should the Waiver be Denied or Remain Pending through Testing Window, or a decision not made by the federal government prior to the end of our testing window, DCSD will administer the other assessments as required each year. Parents will still have the option to excuse their children out of all assessments if they wish to do so.
