Hello New Kindergarten Families,
First of all, let me welcome you to our Cherokee Trail family. We are so excited to have your kindergartener join our school. We are busy closing down this school year and also prepping for the fall. With our incoming Kindergarten students, we do something called balanced beginnings. Since these students are new to our school we spend the first few days of school bringing them into the school for a few hours in small groups. The purpose of this is to not overwhelm the students and slowly introduce them to the school setting. During their time at school, we will be assessing them and getting to know them better, as well as give them a chance to learn what kindergarten will look like for them. Then after the teachers meet all of our incoming students we will look at the data we've collected and place the students into classrooms. We firmly believe this sets up each and every incoming kindergarten student for success. Although this is a bit different than what you may have done as a student yourself, we have had great results from doing this the last few years. During the summer more information will be sent out. Please see the below timeline.
  • Late July - emails sent out to all incoming kindergarten families detailing the specific times and days the students will come in for balanced beginnings
  • August 9th and 10th - Kindergarten balanced beginnings
  • August 11th - Parents will be emailed who their child's teacher will be for the 2021-2022 school year.
  • August 12th - first full day of school for Kindergarten students.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly. Again welcome to the Cherokee Trail Family.
