AUGUST COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER

Welcome Back! My name is Jane Steiner and I am the School Counselor at Cherokee Trail Elementary. I am excited and honored to start my 5th year with my amazing CTE family and my 17th year as a school counselor! I am committed to encouraging, supporting, and empowering our students to become their best selves. My primary task is to help ALL students become better learners by providing a comprehensive and developmental counseling program that meets their academic, personal/social, and career development needs.

While following district and state protocols, I will be meeting with students individually and in small groups, conducting classroom lessons to build student success skills, and collaborating with parents and staff.

Support provided can be therapeutic, but the role of a school counselor is not to diagnose or provide therapy. I am able to provide temporary/short-term support to help students overcome acute issues having an impact on their school performance. I am a resource similar to the school nurse in that she can provide help, but refers out for more serious problems. Licensed mental health counselors are the appropriate resource to provide ongoing therapy sometimes needed by families and children.

As the counselor, I have the privilege of providing support to every student at CTE. Confidentiality is respected, unless they plan on hurting themselves, hurting someone else, or someone is hurting them. Although I do not require parental consent, if you would like to request I meet with your child for a specific concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

I look forward to a great school year and supporting all our wonderful students at CTE!  Feel free to email me: [email protected]

UPCOMING CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles Continue ....
First week of school? Check. Second week of school? Almost check. This is the first "real' week of school with our double specials starting and our staff with all of their meetings back on the calendar. Basically, things just got really busy for everyone. Our teachers have been spending their time establishing routines and building their classroom community. Now they are ready to jump in and start getting to actual instruction. We are so happy to get down to business.

Coming up in the next few weeks is our Fun Run. This is our big fundraiser of the year and a great chance to support our school. Look for more information coming out soon.
On the personal side, my baby girl is now 15 and has her driver's permit. Who knew time would fly by so fast? It seems like only yesterday that she was off to her first day of Kindergarten and now she is a sophomore in high school. One of the super fun things about having a daughter with a permit is now we get to spend our free time risking my life teaching her to drive. We started over the summer in the parking lot of Regis high school going slower than I thought my car was physically able to go. We practiced parking and turning with a high degree of success on the turns and a very low degree of success on parking. Now that it has been a few months we have now graduated onto the actual road around our neighborhood. Since I am writing this, know that I didn't die, although my daughter tried a few times to drive us off the road or drive us into oncoming traffic. Thank goodness I have an automatic or else I would probably need a new car and a pile of hospital bills. Fingers crossed that I live long enough to see her get her actual license.
That is it for this week's edition. Stay tuned for next time when the Principal Chronicles continues....
