NOVEMBER COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER

Hello families!

My role as a school counselor includes teaching students mindsets & behaviors related to career education.  I have begun visiting classrooms to teach career exploration activities.  Activities include learning about career cluster areas, career interest surveys, and various occupations.  It is never too early to begin discussing careers and goals.  As a parent, one way to help your child with career exploration is to simply share about your own career and choices you have made (successes and failures).  Your child will begin to understand that their interests and abilities should align with their intended career path.

I have also recently visited all 5th and 6th grade classes to discuss safety and tools they have available to ensure the safety of themselves and others.  We discussed the importance of safety at home and school. The students were provided information about Safe 2 Tell Colorado and how they can report a concern.  We also discussed the importance of having at least 3 adults they can go to if they have a concern or need help (trusted triangle).  Adults can also report concerns to Safe 2 Tell.  Please read additional information below.

Safe 2 Tell Colorado

Do you know how to report a concern that threatens you, your friends, your family or your community?  Safe 2 Tell Colorado is an anonymous reporting tool for parents and students.  There are 3 ways to make an anonymous report – via website, app, or phone call.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles Continue ....

It is that time of year again where I do my traditional “everything I am thankful for” in the spirit of Thanksgiving. So below is my 2022 list of things (in no particular order) that I am thankful for:

* My personal and work families

* My job

* My health (although this week I've been riding the struggle bus)

* My plantar fasciitis is finally gone

* A kindergarten team who spend the majority of their time filling our youngest minds with everything they need to know for life

* A first grade team who spends every waking moment planning for their next lesson

* A second grade team who has come together so well with two new members and work so hard for their students

* A third grade team who bring the joy and passion into their teaching every single day

* A fourth grade team who laughs their way through all their hard work and effort to support their students

* A fifth grade team who are so dialed into their students that they are one big classroom with each students needs being met

* A sixth grade team who became a team at the last minute but has worked through so many early challenges together

* A specials team who broke new ground on what could be accomplished in a mere 45-minute class period to send our students to new heights

* A SPED team that goes extra mile after extra mile after extra mile for all of their students

* An intervention team that is constantly adjusting and monitoring to make sure our students grow

* An SSN room full of dedicated professionals who work so hard every day to integrate and support our students

* A group of EA's who take extra time to work with and support our students and do whatever it takes

* An office staff who keeps the building from falling apart

* A PLS who lives and breathes Cherokee Trail Elementary

* A CST who makes sure my T's are crossed and my I's are dotted

* A media specialist who makes every event amazing

* A counselor who never stops or gives up on kids

* A mental health team who chooses kids over paperwork

* A nurse and health assist who spend countless hours making sure our students are healthy and safe

* A speech team who works day after day to make sure things sound the way that they should

* An ELL team who supports not only our students but their families as well

* A BASE program who loves our kids at all hours of the day (and night)

As always, I love my job. I love the school and this community, and most of all I love each and every student here at Cherokee Trail. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. See you next time when the Principal Chronicles continue.
