SOCIAL EMOTIONAL WELLNESS - NOELLE DUNKER

What’s Happening in Social Emotional Wellness?

K/1/2: This week will focus on how we might have mixed up emotions (multiple feelings at one time). We will practice how to recognize the individual feelings we experience within the mixed up emotions.

3/4/5/6: We will grasp a better understanding of our nervous system and the ways that our brains automatically respond to a dysregulated nervous system. We will also practice test-taking strategies related to our emotions.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles continue ...

This past weekend crossed the line between my personal life and my professional life - the District's Apple Award ceremony, celebrating the very best teachers and staff, was held on a Saturday. This year, CTE's award winners were Ahna Briese (1st) and Meredith Becker (Nurse). I was very excited to celebrate with them on a weekend.

On the personal side, the place where I have been living for the last few months has been put up for sale. Those of you who know anything about the current housing market know that this is an all-out blitz of showings. We started our showings on Thursday and they were supposed to end on Sunday evening. Needless to say, all last week, I was basically homeless as I couldn't be home until after 8:30 every night.

So on Saturday, in order to be out of the house all day, we decided to go skiing for the day. After cleaning up the house for one-thousandth time, we headed up to Copper Mountain. As we were leaving, we got our first offer on the house. It was a decent offer but the agent wanted us to agree immediately. Keep in mind by Saturday morning, we had over 40 showings with several interested parties so we decided to wait a little later in the day to see where things went.

The skiing was great, the weather was beautiful but as the day wore on, no new offers came in. Since we had to be out of the house all day we decided to stay all the way until the ski area shut down before we headed home. Luckily I had brought clothes to wear to the apple awards. Right about the time we were ready to leave, we got our second offer on the house. This offer wasn't as good so we started debating whether or not we should just sign the first offer and be done with this whole thing.

Right about the time we reached Idaho Springs, we got our third offer on the house so we pulled over in Idaho Springs to have some dinner and figure out a game plan. Since this offer was better but roughly the same as the first with a little bit of difference, we decided that we should probably just sign the first offer since it now came with a deadline of 8 PM that night. After lots of back and forth with the relator, we decided to wait until just before 8 PM to sign the first offer. Since we were now late to the Apple Awards, I hit the gas and sped down to Parker. As we were pulling into the parking lot of the Apple awards, the fourth offer came in roughly 15 minutes before the 8 PM deadline. This offer blew the other offers away. By a lot! For the next two and a half hours, we negotiated back and forth between all of the parties from the parking lot. When all the dust had settled, the house sold for way over the asking price but I had completely missed the entire Apple Awards. It was great to sell the house but I felt horrible about missing such a special celebration. In the end, it makes a really good story. Lastly, congratulations to Mrs. Briese and Mrs. Becker. You two are some of the best people I know, both personally and professionally.

That is it for this week's episode. Stay tuned for next week when I may spin a tale of my daughter's passport which is a great story for another time. See you next week when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
