COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER

November
For many people, the holidays can be both a joyous and stressful time of year.  Keeping a peaceful home during this time of year can be a daunting task.
Listed below are 10 steps to maintain a peaceful home

1.     Have a family meeting to begin addressing the problem

2.    During and after your family meeting, listen to your children’s needs

3.    Validate the feelings your children express

4.    Let your children know that you love each one in a special way

5.    Trust your role as a parent

6.    Catch your children in the act of working out problems and praise them for doing so

7.    Teach your children empathy

8.    Spend 15-20 minutes a day of uninterrupted time with each child

9.    Think about what behavior adults in your house are modeling

10. Limit your children’s intake of violent TV shows, videos, and computer games
