November 9th - 16th!

We open with Donuts & Dads! The magic begins during Donuts with Dad on Friday 11/9: shop early at the fair beginning at 7:30 am. Our Enchanted Green Screen will be open for photos; $1 donation goes to the All For Books charity. We have all the books to make holiday wish lists come true!

Let Your Imagination Grow at our late night Family Glow Evening on Tuesday, November 13th at 7 pm. We'll be getting our glow on with face painting and accessories under the blacklights! Silver Claw the Elder (Mr. Miller) and Lightening the Powerful (Mrs. Hunt) will be weaving a tale by the glow of sparkling lights. Don't lack imagination - be sure to donate $1 for All For Books charity and put on your fier

cest or sparkliest fairy tale attire - dragons, knights, wizards and unicorns, oh, my! We're open until 8:30 pm this evening! We will be holding a Coin Challenge for the All For Books charity the week before the Fair, 11/5-11/9. Each day we will award points to the Team that collects the highest total for that day. The class that collects the highest overall total will receive a class reward.

VETERAN'S DAY CELEBRATION - KAREN NOTTINGHAM Dear CTE Families: We are again celebrating Veteran's Day by honoring those in our community that have served in the Armed Forces. In conjunction with this, we would like to decorate the walls with stories of our community's veterans. A template, Take A Veteran To School, is attached which your child can complete at home. Students can honor a family member or friend that has served in the military. There is a place to include their name, the veteran's name and service information, and either a photograph or a drawing that represents their veteran. You could also have your child write a short piece on why their Veteran is a Hero, and how they exhibited EPIC qualities as a veteran. This could either be on the template or attached to it. Your child's teacher also has the template if you are unable to print it at home. Please return the completed form to your child's teacher by Monday, 11/5, so that we have time to create the display prior to the veterans' visit and for our Donuts with Dad event on Friday, 11/09. Thank you for taking the time to honor the veterans in our CTE community!

FAMILY CODING NIGHT 2018 - ANNA HYLTON The eight schools of our Chaparral feeder are hosting a Family Coding Night on Thursday, Dec. 6th from 6:00-7:30pm at Sierra Middle School. Please join us for this hands-on event to expand your family's knowledge and passion about computer programming. What is coding anyway? Why is it important? Is it for your child? Do you want to know more? Come explore a variety of robots, computer websites, and even non-electronic stations to see the variety of tools available in our schools. Computational thinking and reasoning skills are valuable in every subject - come experience the possibilities of computer science! FROM THE AP - ROBIN HUNT
Safety First Suicide is a public health issue and is preventable! Learn how to talk about it and help create a suicide safer community! safeTalk is a training that prepares adults to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide resources. Most people with thoughts of suicide invite help to stay safe. Alert helpers know how to use these opportunities to support that desire for safety. safeTALK: for parents of Douglas County School District Link: Class description and registration link (must register to attend). What did teachers do on November 6th? Well, we voted, that’s for sure! We also spent some time looking at our entire school’s iReady reading data. We have created a data wall providing a visual representation of how our school is performing in reading. Teachers also looked deeper at student data in teams to make certain we were targeting the specific reading needs of our students. In the afternoon, teachers chose two classes to attend from a menu of three options. The choices were diving deeper into iReady reports and using them to support student learning, using Wellness in the classroom setting, or looking over math resources for advanced learners. We received great feedback from our day together. Student Council Just a quick reminder, Student Council is collecting items for Thanksgiving Dinners for those in need. We are partnering with Parker Task Force and we now need turkeys for those dinners! Gift cards are also welcome. Please connect with [email protected] if you have questions.

Thank you! We want to sincerely thank all those who voted this year. Douglas County had a record turn out. We especially want to thank those who voted yes on Ballot Issue 5A and 5B. We thank you for supporting our schools. You’ve probably seen some of our teachers out on street corners saying thank you! Whether the issues pass or not, we thank you for your continued support.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER
Dear CTE Community, Now that November is here, we move into a season of thanks. I wanted to share with you what I am thankful for and what makes our school special. Our school is special not by the things we do but by the people involved in it. At Cherokee Trail, we have passionate dedicated teachers who work long hours in order to meet the needs of every single one of our students. We have a supportive and caring community that takes time to attend our events, volunteer in our classrooms, help our students with their school work, and support our school. Most importantly what makes our school special is our students. They show up each and every day ready to learn, knowing their jobs, and filled with wonder and curiosity. As the Principal of Cherokee Trail, I have the unique opportunity to see our community, staff, and students all working together to achieve greatness. I am truly grateful to be a part of this school and this community. Our school is a place that is very special to me and I feel extremely lucky to be here. I am in awe of how our staff can care so much for our students and do whatever it takes to help them grow into their academic best. I am amazed at the unique culture our community has. Our families connect and take care of each other both inside and outside of school. Thank you for all that each one of you does for our school.

JULIA ROBINSON MATH FESTIVAL Franktown Elementary, November 17th @ 10:00- 11:30 What is a Julia Robinson Math Festival? A Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival offering students advanced and thought provoking mathematics in a social and cooperative atmosphere. Students choose among several tables offering problem sets, games, or puzzles with mathematical themes. They work as long as they wish, while a facilitator provides support and encouragement. Motivation comes from the social interaction, rather than from any prize, grade, medal, or ranking. Festivals are run locally and supported by a national network. They can address any level of student, from those struggling with mathematics to those soaring in achievement. Our festival will focus on students in grades first through eighth grade. Speed Stacking, Games, Puzzles, Open-Ended Tasks and More The festival will take place at Franktown Elementary from 10:00 am -11:30 am on Saturday, Nov. 17th. Joining us for the first time, Dr. Bonello-Goers and Larry Goers, will provide movement math tasks. The festival is open to all students in grades 1-8. Sign-up to join the fun! Complaints regarding violations of Title VI, (race, national origin), Title IX (sex, gender), Section 504/ADA (handicap or disability), may be filed directly with the Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Education, 1244 North Speer Blvd., Suite 310, Denver, CO 80204. Complaints regarding violations of Title VII (employment) and the ADEA (prohibiting age discrimination in employment) may be filed directly with the Federal Office of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 303 E. 17th Ave., Suite 510, Denver, CO 80202, or the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, 1560 Broadway, Suite 1050, Denver, CO 80202.

NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records at this link ( Douglas County School District Transcripts and Records Requests ).
