On April 26, Cherokee Trail students will be participating in the 2nd annual “Make Cherokee Trail Beautiful” challenge by painting rocks for the front entryway to school. Each student will create a design with a positive message to paint on their rock. Please send students in old clothes and shoes that day, or have them bring an old shirt to put over their clothes as paint may get on students in the process of painting. If you are able to volunteer to help during the time that your child is painting, please contact your child’s teacher directly. Rock Painting Schedule - April 26, 2019

SUCCESS IN THE MIDDLE We are very excited to announce that the DCSD Prevention & School Culture Department will again be hosting a Success In the Middle Conference on April 19, 2019. This conference is exclusively for students in 5th or 6th grade that will be transitioning to one of the nine neighborhood middle schools. This event is FREE for students and includes free lunch and as well as a free transportation option through DCSD!  Registration is open until April 5th, 2019 but will be capped at 250 attendees. (flyer) The event is designed to offer students information and strategies that will help them have a successful transition from elementary to middle school.  We will be focusing on helping students meet new peers, work on managing change, fear and challenges, build resiliency and take care of themselves (self-advocacy, study habits, time management). Creating a Positive Bedtime Routine Nighttime, immediately before sleep, is the time when we're able to reconfigure our mindset (same as right after waking up).  Having a positive conversation with your kids - right before sleep - will carry them into the night with gratitude and positivity.  Use the link below to make a glowing cube to help foster a positive mindset bedtime ritual. Each side of the cube has a question such as “What did you learn today?" "What are you grateful for?" "How were you kind today?" Have your kids toss a cube every night before sleep. They will have so much fun answering the questions (and let them ask you one too).

Thanks for all your support for our CakeWalk and concessions. Student Council made a jump start on next year’s Wish Week earning over $500. Our community is amazing! National Bike To School This fun day is coming soon. Mark your calendars now to bike to school on Wednesday, May 8th. Be watching for more details and prizes to come! CMAS Testing Our testing is winding down. Most students are finished with all subjects. Fifth grade students will finish on Monday taking two sections of science. In spite of all the disruptions with our schedule we have VERY few make ups to do...less than 5% of students were absent on Thursday and 80% of those students absent were traveling for the holiday. Our students are rockin’ it!

The Principal Chronicles continue ... As we approach the end of the year life seems to fill up with all kinds of activities both here at school and also at home. For the school version, we are in the midst of state testing along with evaluations along with benchmark testing along with every other kind of fun and excitement that happens at the end of the year. Basically, in the teacher world, everything is due on May 1st which is quite a rush to get done in that time frame. On the home front, my youngest is having performances in both of the plays she is in. She has put in a ton of time working on her roles. Who knew that being a mirror would require so much work? Not only that, she has been working hard busting out her dance moves as part of the ensemble. I can't tell you how many times I have heard the music to Mary Poppins. Oh the things we do for our kids. That is it for this week's edition. Sorry it is so short but I have so many things to run off to. Side note, I am very proud of our students for persevering through CMAS. I know it isn't anyone's favorite but it certainly helps our school a great deal. Stay tuned to next week when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
