NEWS: December 4, 2023

Hello 3rd Grade Families!

It is hard to believe we are so close to winter break and the end of the year! This is such a busy time, at school and at home. I feel like a chicken with my head cut off at times. I am sure many of you can relate.

Just a reminder we will be doing a book exchange at our winter party on December 22nd. Every student can bring in a new or gently used book as a present. If buying a new book please keep it under $10. Please be sure the book is gender neutral and gift wrapped. You may start sending the books in as soon as possible so that we can make sure every student has a gift to open on the day of our party. The gifts will be handed out randomly, so there is no need to put a gift tag on the book. Please let me know if you have any questions about our holiday party book exchange.

Also, we will be doing our school store on December 15th. The students use their EPIC bucks they earned in class to buy things at our store. If you are at the dollar store and see something that would be fun and can donate, or your student has any gently used small toys or items at home they are tired of that another 3rd grade student might be interested in please send them in. I can add it to our school store. Thank you so much for your help with our school store!

Library is on Wednesday. Please return books on Tuesday.

MathWe are finishing our work in Unit 2, our last series of lesson are about understand patterns. This week we extend our thinking about patterns by exploring patterns in a sequence of shapes and in number charts.

The kids are doing great with their facts! Please continue to work on multiplication facts with your student. The fact they are practicing for the week should be written in their planner. Practicing is easy to do and can take 5-10 minutes. You can quiz them in the car going to activities, flash cards or have your student get online and use:

Literacy- We are continuing our work in Unit 4- Comparing points of view. We will begin to look at and discuss our essential question: What makes people view the same experience in different ways? We continue reading fictional stories folktales to distinguish a reader's point of view from that of the narrator or characters. We will also be looking at how each part of the story builds on the previous parts , recounting key details in a story, and analyzing how illustrations contribute to a story.

Reading logs - Please remember our Third Grade Goal is 100 minutes each week. Please be sure your student puts their name, the date, the title of their book they read, and their minutes each night on their log. One night a week please have your student write a response to what they are reading. There are ideas for ways to respond to their reading on the back of the reading log.

Writing- This unit we will be working on writing a narrative. We have been researching facts about reindeer and will be writing a narrative from a reindeer's point of view.

Please be sure to check and sign your students planner nightly. Homework can change. If your kiddo is ever stumped on a part of their homework, please write me a note in the planner.
