The Principal Chronicles continue ... Wow, what a week of weather. I can't remember a February where the weather was so nice. Of course, as I write this the temperature has dropped down to 30 so it feels like winter again. I'm sure with this large swing in weather, we will have several kids get sick. We have had a bunch already.

Currently, on the docket for us, this week is the start of Chaparral's wish week. Our kickoff assembly for it is Friday. Wish week is where we do different activities to raise money for Chaparral for them to grant a wish to someone in need. It is always a special time and an awesome way for us to help out our Chaparral family.

I was thinking back to the times when I was a teacher. We never had a PSP or were able to raise any money for the school. The most we ever raised when I taught at Federal Heights was $200. We sold popcorn to the students after school for $1. That was the total amount we raised for the entire year and was the most we ever raised for the entire eight years I taught there. It's a big difference coming down to DCSD. Back then in order for us to get parents to come to conferences, we had to buy a ton of fried chicken and invite the parents in for a chicken dinner in their classrooms. Once we had them in the building we would try to quickly meet with them all before they got done eating. I have no idea why fried chicken worked but it did. We tried a taco bar, potato bar, pizza, and countless other things. The only thing that ever worked was fried chicken. Maybe there was something to be said for the Colonel's Secret Recipe. Either way, it always makes me appreciate each and every one of our parents who volunteer or donate their time and money to support our school and our Chap Family.

Well, that is it for this week's episode. Stay tuned for next week when the Principal Chronicles continues...

We have a student who is sponsoring a fundraiser. Instead of birthday gifts for herself, she is collecting school supplies for Children's Hospital. Please see the attached flyer.

Student Council sold over 400 Valentine Candy Grams for Valentine's Day. Thanks so much for your support!

For StuCo's next service project, we will be partnering with Chaparral High School's Student Government for their Wish Week. We will do Penny Wars from February 27-March 3, and Spirit Week from March 6-10. All donations will go directly to Chap's Wish Week. Our Wish Week kick off assembly is Friday and we can't wait to see what we raise. Remember pennies are positive and silver is negative. So, you'll want to put pennies in your grade level tub and silver in another grade level's tub. The grade who collects the most points (+ for pennies and - for silver/bills) will win a movie and popcorn party!

Mark your calendars now! Parent/Teacher Conferences are the week of March 13, with our late nights being March 14 and 16.

Box Tops: Ms. Jones' class won last week and they were the proud recipients of donuts for their victory! Mr. Major's class is still in the lead for the overall prize of a class pizza party. This is the last week! All Box Tops must be in by the end of the school day Friday, February 24th, to be counted this school year! After that keep clipping and hang on to your Box Tops for next school year. The funds we receive from Box Tops will support new technology at our school! Thank you!
