The Principal Chronicles continue ... After last week's debacle of a Chronicles, I figured I needed to come back with a really good one this week. Lucky for me (and possibly, but maybe not, you) we had a staff development day on Tuesday, and it was exactly what I needed.
This year has been by far the most challenging year of my admin career. These past few months have really taken a toll on me, and when your youngest flat out tells you "all you ever do is work or you're crabby or you're exhausted" then it's time for some self-reflection and an attitude adjustment.

Although election day was interesting for a lot of reasons, for me it was a bit of a wake-up call. To set the stage, our school met in the afternoon at Chaparral with the staff from Pine Grove, Mammoth Heights, Prairie Crossing, Pine Lane, Sierra, and of course Chaparral. It was the first time we had ever gotten together as an entire feeder, or as we like to call it our Chap Family.
We first met in the gym for lunch. Serving a few thousand people is certainly challenging but it was really cool to see everyone from around the feeder. They played a video that we all contributed to and connected with one another.
Next, our staff plus a few staff members from Sierra and Chaparral, met with three young ladies who all attended Cherokee Trail and are now Juniors at Chap. All three girls were very involved at Chap and extremely successful. It was a very proud moment for our teachers at CTE to hear how their hard work had paid off. Most people in that room had tears in their eyes the whole time. Even though none of those girls were here with me as their principal, it was still an extremely moving and powerful experience. Each one of those girls was amazing.
From there, we split up into "like" areas. So all of the Kindergarten teachers in our feeder got together, all of the first-grade teachers, etc. We even had our 6th-grade teachers meet with the 7th-grade teacher at Sierra so we could all be aligned with our practice. It was awesome and all of teachers left energized.
For me, we met as principals, assistant principals, and deans about what we could do to make our feeder even better. It was so awesome to be able to speak to and spend time with the other leaders talking about making our schools the best in Parker. It was very exciting and re-ignited my love for our school and our community. It was exactly the kind of message I needed to hear.
I walked out of Chaparral feeling proud of our staff, excited about our work, and happy to be a part of this great community. I love this school and I love our kids. I will continue to do what is best for our students and to help prepare them for the future. I know I speak for our staff as well when I say this: thank you to all that read this crazy column and please know we appreciate each and every one of you.

StuCo's Thanksgiving Dinner Food Drive ends November 15! (only 1 week to go and we are way behind last year's totals!)
CTE's student council is collecting food and monies for Parker Task Force's Thanksgiving Dinner Food Drive (watch the video). In this annual event, we are hoping to donate more than 50 dinners to the Task Force.
Grade Level contest: the grade donating the most food will win a movie and popcorn party!

Highlighted items we have only a few or none of:
(please note: we have plenty of refrigerator space, so feel free to send perishable items as well!)

  • Frozen turkey (over 10 lbs)
  • Aluminum turkey pan (1)
  • Butter (1 lb)
  • Dinner rolls (12+)
  • Pie (2)
  • Cool whip (1)
  • Canned sweet potatoes (1 lg. or 2 med)
  • Stuffing (2)
  • Potatoes (2 boxes or 5 lbs)
  • Gravy, packets or jars (2)
  • Canned green beans (6)
  • Canned mushroom soup (2)
  • Canned fruit (2)
  • Cranberry sauce​ (2)
  • If you'd like to donate money, the cost of a meal is about $50. You are welcome to donate gift cards or make checks payable to the Parker Task Force
