DECEMBER

The Gift of Gratitude
Do you ever wonder if your children are truly grateful for what they have and for what is done for them?  Practicing gratitude is something that people become better at with practice. By practicing gratitude, you can actually train your brain to notice positive life aspects. This mindset increases mental resilience, even in the worst of times.
Check out this article to learn more about the health benefits from practicing gratitude and family activities that support it.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles Continues....

Well by some miracle of modern science, we made it all the way to winter break. It is honestly astonishing to me that we arrived here in one piece after everything we have been through this year. Through quarantines, hybrids, in-person, cleaning, distancing, synchronous, asynchronous, mask-wearing, contact tracing, and maybe even vaccines. It truly has been a year like no other.

As I think back through this past year, I've heard so much negativity and the truly terribleness of everything, but on this last Chronicles of 2020, I'd like to spend a second talking about some of the positive things that have happened this year:

On the school side, we started our year for the first time ever with small group assessments and our teachers were able to get to know their students better at the beginning of the year than they ever had before. We successfully navigated three separate learning modalities and our students, parents, and staff all were able to make things work in a very short period of time. Our teachers grew in their professional practice more in 9 months than they have in their entire careers. We were able to have our school function sort of like normal. We spent more time than ever discovering what are the most essential things we need our students to learn. Most importantly our students and staff arrived at winter break safely.

On the home side, I ran my first marathon. Ran my first virtual race. Finished a completely silly running program. Spent a ton of time with my little family. Adopted a puppy who will most likely turn out to be a giraffe. Grew as a leader, as a husband, a father, and a son. Gained a new perspective on how precious my job and life really is. Ate a whole bunch of food that I probably shouldn't. There are probably a lot more things that I just haven't thought of yet.

As this year comes to a close, from our school family to yours, have a happy holiday season. Take care of yourselves and we will see you when you're taller, when the Principal Chronicles continues....
