Student Council is selling Candy Grams before and after school this week and next -- $2 for one and $5 for three. Your handwritten note and a full-sized candy bar will be delivered to your child's classroom on Valentine's Day. One hundred percent of our proceeds from the Candy Grams will go to our Make A Wish student who will be revealed during Wish Week.  Student Council is hosting Wacky Wednesday for the month of February. The Principal Chronicles continue ... So this past weekend as many of you know, I celebrated my birthday with my family and friends. Renee had all of us participate in axe throwing. To be honest, I was a little skeptical; I was having a hard time wrapping my mind around how throwing a bunch of axes around would be entertaining for longer than about 30 minutes. Our day began with lunch at Maria Empanadas which was good but not nearly as good as it was the last time we were there. I guess I built up the hype too much in my head. From there we were off to throw some axes. We ended up being super early so we decided to stop by Hammonds Candy Factory since it was right down the street, to kill some time. If you have never been there, you should totally go. The tours are free and they have tons of candy options at the end of the tour. We didn't take the tour we only went into the gift shop as my girls LOVE sugar whenever they get a chance to have it. When we walked in we were told by the workers that we "needed" to help ourselves to as many cans of candied peanuts as we wanted because they were going to throw them out at the end of the day. So what did the girls do? They grabbed about 11 cans, which could theoretically feed a small country. At least we would have plenty of peanuts for our axe throwing. As we walked into the Bad Axe Throwing Company, I truly had no idea what to expect. After signing our lives away via waivers we met our "coach", Jerry. I guess we all needed a coach since none of us had ever throw axes before. Now Jerry looked like someone who coaches people to throw axes. His ensemble came complete with multiple tattoos (several of which were located on his head), lots of piercings, and to top it all off, a camouflaged kilt. You really can't make this stuff up. After going through all of the rules, regulations, and how to throw the axes, we were able to start throwing. My skepticism turned to enjoyment as throwing axes was pretty fun. It wasn't hard to throw but it took some time to master the technique. Basically it was a lot like throwing darts but more difficult to make the axes "stick". From there Jerry divided the 9 of us into two different teams and the competition began. I have to say, it was totally awesome. Our group had so much fun and the two hours went by in a snap. We played lots of different games and had some pretty serious axe throwing bets flying around that place. A couple of things we discovered during our time there: #1 - Renee is definitely a power thrower and not so much interested in the technique, #2 - my oldest daughter was surprisingly good at throwing and may have a future horror movie career - she was easily our team's best thrower, #3 - where my oldest had a talent for throwing axes, my youngest clearly did not - no matter how hard she tried or how many different techniques she tried, she could not get that axe to stick, #4 - one of my friends was so bad - I mean really bad -he hit just about everything in our court except for the target including but limited to: the wall, the fence on the side, the ceiling, the floor, and even an advertisement banner. At least my youngest hit the target most of the time, it just wouldn't stick. In the end, both teams each won two games so it came down to a tie breaker of five throws. My team ended up winning but I think that is because the other team let me win since it was my birthday. Overall, it was super fun and I would definitely do it again. Jerry, although scary looking, was a lot of fun and a great coach. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to have some fun.
