BOND INFO
Dear Cherokee Trail Elementary Community, In November 2018, Douglas County voters approved a $250 million no-new-taxes Bond. This was the first time Douglas County School District passed a Bond since 2006. I am excited to share that the work supported by Bond funds is beginning across our school district and will continue over the next few years! As you may recall, bond funds at our school will be used as follows: * Replace and upgrade electrical systems and components * Replace and upgrade heating and cooling systems and components * Replace and upgrade fire alarm system * Replace main skylight * Enhance safety and security systems * Refresh aging computers and technology For the latest updates on how Bond funding is being utilized in DCSD, visit www.dcsdk12.org/funding. Thank you for continuing to be an engaged and informed member of our school community! Sincerely, Josh Miller - Principal
Cherokee Trail Elementary School

OCTOBER COUNSELOR'S CORNER
- JANE STEINER
Our 4th grade students have been busy learning about Mindfulness from the MindUp curriculum.  Mrs. Dunker and myself are presenting weekly lessons that teach self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making.  We have been learning about the different parts of the limbic system in the brain and how they work together to manage our emotions. Throughout the school year, I will be introducing Mindfulness concepts in the other grade levels as well. If you are interested in reading a fantastic book about how a child’s brain develops and responds to emotions, I highly recommend reading The Whole-Brain Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child’s Developing Mind” by Daniel Siegel. CHAPARRAL'S SWEET STREET

Chaparral’s annual Sweet Street is coming up on October 25th and we are so excited to see you all there! It will begin at 5:30 p.m. for kids with mobility and sensory complications, and will open up to everyone else from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Our theme this year is the Chaparral Zoo, so come and trick or treat through our exhibits to get candy and play games! There will be donation opportunities at the entrance, where we collect cans for the Parker Task Force and monetary donations for the Chap Fam Fund, so we are requesting that attendees donate if possible! FROM THE AP - ROBIN HUNT
Welcome Back! I hope you are all refreshed and rejuvenated following a week off from school. Supporting the morning carpool line most days, on Monday I noticed some happy and relieved parents as their children left the car for school. My parents were in town for part of the break and left Monday morning. Both my children are in college, one lives on campus and one commutes from home. They loved having me home to take them to lunch and/or shopping. As much as we love having our families at home, it’s nice to get back into the routine of daily life. 5A and 5B Monies We are so thankful for the passing of the bond and mill levy. We completed our order in the spring, and we just submitted the final workings of it this week. It’s been a slow and tedious process, but the district is being very vigilant in ensuring the monies are being spent according to the parameters of the law and in the most necessary ways. We have been getting second hand (sometimes third and fourth hand) furniture for several years, and we are excited to receive some new items for kids. Some examples are round tables, student chairs, cubby systems, book shelves, library furniture and many other things. Thank you for supporting our school in voting for these issues. We truly appreciate you!

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
 - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles continue ... Fall Break has come and gone and as always it feels as though the year is just flying by. It seems like it wasn't too long ago that it was summertime and we were prepping for school to get started. Now we are fully involved in the holiday season with Halloween being next week and Thanksgiving just around the corner. It is just crazy to think about. Where does the time go? How was my Fall Break? (I know you didn't really ask, but what else am I going to ramble on about?) My Fall Break was pretty uneventful. I only had my daughter for two days out of the entire time which puts a damper on the things we can do. We ended up going to Estes for about 24 hours but that trip was pretty uneventful other than I got crushed by my parents at Monopoly. I'm not sure what happens to people once they get beyond the age of 65 because clearly something does and they can consistently crush anyone younger at board games. Strange.  Outside of that, I basically just spent the time getting all of the things done that I don't have time to do during school. Living so far from the school prevents me from getting a lot of basic things done like the oil changed, going to the bank, etc. So that was my Fall Beak in a nutshell. On the school front, we are gearing up for Halloween and Trunk or Treat. I am so excited to see the costumes the students will wear the morning of Halloween. Don't forget about Trunk or Treat at CTE on Tuesday Oct 29th. Should be a lot of fun. That is it for this week. Maybe next week I can squeeze in a Halloween edition of the Chronicles. So until next time when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
