DCSD STRATEGIC PLAN MEETINGS - LINK TO FLYER

Dear CTE families,

Over the past few weeks, the Douglas County community has provided valuable input into our strategic planning process. In March, approximately 300 community members and 500 staff participated in facilitated conversations where they provided feedback about Douglas County School District. That input was used to craft questions for an online survey. In early April, over 30,000 staff, community members and students participated in that online survey, which helped outline community priorities for the upcoming strategic plan. Now, we encourage community members to attend an upcoming meeting to learn more about how community input is being incorporated into the creation of DCSD’s new strategic plan. Attendees will learn about the strategic plan themes that have been generated from community feedback, so far, and have the opportunity to provide input into the Strategic Plan Framework. Parker Monday, May 6 | 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Legend High School

22219 Hilltop Road, Parker

National Bike and Walk To School Day is Wednesday, May 8th! Here’s a note from our coordinator, Anna Amoroso… Hello my fantastic community! Wednesday May 8th is National Bike and Walk to School Day. Cherokee Trail Elementary will be encouraging children to take alternative modes of transportation to and from school that day, so you will be seeing children on foot, bikes, scooters, skates, etc. I'm asking for community volunteers to stand guard on a few intersections that day from 8:20-8:40 am and 3:25-3:45 pm. I need at least five volunteers - but would love more! Let's show our community how much we care! I'll have flags and signs around the neighborhood. $5 Starbucks gift cards to the first five who volunteer, courtesy of me! Kids will be receiving a certificate and a wristband from school for participating. YAY! CTE’s Fourth Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event was a huge success. Thanks to all who participated. We are so very thankful for our volunteers. You are a change agent in the lives of children! What's Happening at CTE (calendar)

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
 - JOSH MILLER
The Principal Chronicles continue ... Some of my loyal readers know, but some may not, that several staff members and I play on a volleyball team together against other schools in DCSD. It is our second year; last year we finished in second place in the District and this year we are the number two seed (lots of two's apparently) in the semi-finals which will be next week. Last night we played a team of individuals from the transportation department. Their team was not good and we crushed their souls in both games. Volleyball can be a pretty rough sport mentally because once the opposing team figures out your weaknesses they exploit them as much as possible. So basically if you struggle to hit the ball well, you are going to see the ball coming your way. A lot. Like seriously a lot. There have been times when I feel really bad for a person who is getting singled out so much. Last night wasn't so bad. After we destroyed them in the first game, Mrs. Whittingham was nice enough to join their team and ended up being one of their best players. It was a selfless act and I am sure the other team really appreciated it. Plus it made the game a lot more fun. Well, that is it for this week's edition, I need to spend some time catching up on a bunch of paperwork but I promise I'll have a good story or two next week. Who knows, I could be writing next weeks edition as the champion of the universe ... or at least of DCSD. See you next time when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
