STAFF CHAT - THE PRINCIPAL'S PODCAST
NEW THIS WEEK: Mr. Miller has posted a podcast for his weekly Staff Chat. Each podcast is available on CTE's YouTube channel - please subscribe and never miss any of the fun! Each week he will have a short interview with one of our staff members. Please enjoy the latest episode of season 2 with Liz Crow.
PSP NEWS
Annual Fun Run: The Fun Run is officially underway! Your student should have brought home their pledge sheet this week. Start collecting pledges now! Sponsors can pledge a flat donation or a donation per lap. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for our school. Funds raised will bring updated technology to our primary classrooms, provide PSP Grants & field trip scholarships, and meet many of the needs we have at CTE. Sponsors can also donate online. You can view who has sponsored your child via an online donation by entering in the user name - cherokee and password - stallions. The Fun Run will be Tuesday, Sept. 25th on our field during each grades specials time. You are welcome to come and cheer your student on! You may also want to check with your student and their teacher to find out what they are going to promote spirit and win the best spirit award. Thank you for supporting our school!
Dinners for Conference Nights:
It’s that time of year again to treat our teacher to some yummy food and treats! On October 2nd & 4th we will need parents to sign up to bring in food, drinks and other items to make our teachers feel appreciated!
- October 2nd we will doing school yard BBQ theme
- October 4th we will be doing a Mexican theme.
There are several items which we will need to make these nights go off without a hitch! Please sign up for whatever you can! And don’t forget we will need some Vegetarian options as well! Please make or bring enough of each item for 20-30 people!

National Walk to School Day!
On Thursday, September 27th, we will be sponsoring our first National Walk to School Day. Here is some information about Safe Routes To School. We will be honoring all those who walk to school with a certificate and a CTE wristband. Be sure to join the fun!
Safety First
Our students have done a fabulous job with the drills we have had thus far. We just completed our second evacuation drill and on Wednesday we will have our first lockdown drill. The purpose of a lockdown drill is to practice being safe in case something unsafe is inside the building. Anyone within the school building is expected to have “lights out and out of sight”. District personnel will be here to provide feedback during the drill. We always remind our students that we practice safety to be safe in the case of an emergency.
Spirit Week Fundraiser
Next week Student Council will sponsor a Spirit Week Fundraiser to raise funds for immediate needs in our school community. Each day students are invited to participate and donate a $1 for this fund. The special days are listed below. We are excited to support our community in such a fun way!
Student Council
StuCo is selling candy bars to support their community service projects. Each candy bar is a $1.
Family Multicultural Night
Chaparral feeder schools are having a Family Multicultural Night to celebrate and share cultures in our community. We would like to celebrate the cultures of all our students and families from the United States and around the world. The event is on October 18, 2018 at Sierra Middle School from 5 to 7 p.m. Please click here if you are interested in attending. We welcome all of our Chaparral Feeder families.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER
The Principal Chronicles continue (Outdoor Ed Edition) ... As per tradition, I go up and spend one night with our 6th grade teachers and students down (is it really down?) in Larkspur for their Outdoor Ed experience. For the first time since I have been at Cherokee Trail, I went up on the second night instead of the first. Mrs. Hunt usually comes down on the second night but this year it was her daughters 18th birthday and obviously, she wanted to be home for that.
Unfortunately, Thursdays are traditionally heavy meeting days at the District for me so I didn't get to go down to Larkspur until after school. I did, however, get to sneak out of my last meeting and get back to CTE to take part in the Chaparral Homecoming assembly. That was totally awesome; they brought their cheerleaders, pep band, and several other students. Our students had a great time and I was told that we were the best-behaved out of all of our feeder schools (what did you expect? it's not amateur hour here at CTE, we're professionals!).
Once school was out I headed down to Outdoor Ed but I had to make a quick stop at Chick-Fil-A to pick up a salad for Mrs. Duncan since the dinner menu at Outdoor Ed contained Swedish meatballs, and Mrs. Duncan doesn't do Swedish meatballs. After dinner was "teacher time" where the students wrote letters to future campers. Our students wrote some of the best letters I have seen. They talked about archery, orienteering, and many other activities they had participated in. Made me a little sad to have missed all of those activities.
From there we moved on to the campfire (which I had never been to) for S'mores out of an oven (who knew?) and some fun. To best explain the campfire, I can paint you this verbal picture: Imagine our 6th grade sitting on logs around a propane fire pit, singing silly songs (very loudly I might add), dancing around like the Grapes of Wrath, and laughing like you wouldn't believe. All in all the kids were wiped out but had a ton of fun.
As the students made their way to bed, we teachers went back to our cabin to wrap up the day and get some needed rest. Unbeknownst to me, the 6th grade teachers had found a puzzle. So instead of coming back and getting some rest, we ended up becoming engrossed in said puzzle and "had" to finish it. Let me end this by confirming we did finish that puzzle. Eventually, like really eventually, but darn it we finished it!! (I won't divulge what the actual time was when we finished but it sure as heck wasn't early).
