UNITY OF PURPOSE - Community Conversations - DCSD Strategic Plan

PRINCIPAL LETTER TO FAMILIES (click here for Spanish) Dear CTE families, Douglas County School District is ready to start creating its road map for the next 3-5 years and we want to hear from families and community members from across our school district about what priorities and endeavors should be included in our plan.

Please help us make sure that the CTE voice is well represented at one of these upcoming community conversations. No RSVP is required. However, it is so important for our community members to provide input and insight into this plan. I strongly encourage you to attend! Help us determine the next steps necessary to ensure that each and every student in Douglas County School District is ready for a successful life after high school, and beyond. If you have any questions about the DCSD strategic plan, or these community conversations, please reach out to me. Thank you in advance,

FROM THE AP
- ROBIN HUNT
Academic Excellence The Jan Plan (Jan Richardson Reading Model) - This week classroom teachers received training in Guided Reading practices. We had a trainer from DCSD’s Curriculum, Instruction & Professional Growth department. The trainer went over content, strategies and planning for different reading groups. We received great feedback about the support offered. Teachers will meet with this same trainer in April and May for additional support. Lost and Found All items in our lost and found will be on display in the lobby beginning Monday, March 4th. Anything not claimed by March 15th at 4pm will be donated to a local charity. Safety First! On Thursday we had a surprise Evacuation Drill at 1:15 pm. Surprise drills help us see the holes in our systems. Staff and students did a great job, but we’ll continue to follow the expectations even when we’re surprised. Here are the expectations:

* classroom and exterior doors closed * no voices during the drill (raise your hand if you have a need) * walk safely and stay in line so your teacher can easily see/find you * walk to the wooden fence on the west side of the field and stop * stay in line and face the building so you can see and hear directions easily * wait for directions from your teacher or administrator

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER
The Principal Chronicles continue ... Normally I am sitting in Parker Library waiting for my daughter to get done with her confirmation class when I sit down to write out the chronicles, but this week I have to attend her confirmation class with her so here I am trying to knock it out during school. It isn't very easy to write the Chronicles at school since there are always about 8 billion things going on at once. Case in point, in the time it took me to write that last paragraph (complete with one really long sentence) I had one discipline issue, three teachers come in to chat with me about various things, one sales phone call, 11 emails, and one text message. It is no wonder why I have a standing desk. Other than that, things are going on as they typically do here at CTE. Students are learning, staff is working hard, and we as admin are trying to keep everything together. By the way, since I wrote the last paragraph, I had an additional student come down, three more emails, and one more teacher came by to talk to me. Well I can see that there won't be any time for my normal witty satire because now it is almost the end of the day and guess what, my Director just called and I need to call her back. So I had better sign off! Until next time, when things slow down a little bit, I'll see you again, when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
