PSP NEWS
Help Wanted:
Our annual Games Night is scheduled for April 18th. We are looking for someone to share their talents and help coordinate this event. This is a fun night for our community! PSP offers free bingo games and ice cream at this event. We can provide all the information necessary to organize Games Night. Please e-mail PSP if you are interested.
PSP Grants:
Thank you to everyone who has supported our events and fundraisers the first half of the year! We have provided so many great things for our school because of your generosity. Here's a list of what we've accomplished so far this year:

Looking to build your child’s character this holiday season? Instead of buying gifts, encourage your child to make “tickets”. They can be good for things such as playing games with a sibling or helping a parent with housework. He or she can draw the tickets on paper and decorate them with markers. Another idea is to have your child create artwork to give as presents. As people show their appreciation for their gift, your child will feel valued and a sense of mastery.

I want to wish each of you a wonderful holiday season. Our family celebrates Christmas, attending Christmas Eve services at our church and then Christmas Day together, my son, daughter, and me. We are very excited to have some time away from our routines. I hope you all have something to look forward to and that you enjoy time with your families.

The Principal Chronicles continue ... As I write this, it is Wednesday and there are exactly 1.5 school days left before Christmas break. This morning I had my first ever eye exam. I am sure many of you find that odd, but I really really loathe things around my eyes - especially people or doctors poking at me. Given the fact that I am becoming an old man (seemingly by the day) I thought I should get my eyes checked. I truly had no idea what to expect.
When I went in the nurse (I guess you call the person helping you a nurse, I mean she had scrubs on) was very surprised that I have never had an eye exam. The first test they put me through was this weird pronged thingy that felt like it was blowing stuff into my eyes. It was awful. I could not stop my eyes from watering the entire time. I had tears streaming down my face and yes you are correct, it was embarrassing.
Next up was the traditional read the letters on the far away whiteboard. This was pretty easy and the "nurse" told me after this test my vision was still 20/20 (still got it after all these years).
The last thing they did was dilate my eyes. I have seen many people get this done before but never had the pleasure myself. I have to say it was one of the strangest experiences of my life. As I stated before, putting things in my eye ranks right up there with going to the dentist and watching reality TV, so I was not looking forward to the eye drop thing. In the end, it wasn't too bad.
As I went to leave the appointment (I don't need glasses, thank you very much) they asked me if I wanted some dark glasses for my ride into work. Since my eyes were dilated they said I might experience some "slight sun irritation" and "looking at screens may be problematic". I said "no thank you" because I didn't want to look like a dork and told them that I have sunglasses in my car (plus one of my pet peeves is people wearing sunglasses indoors - that is just weird). As I walked out through the building and went outside, I was not prepared for the brightest sunlight I have ever experienced in my whole life. It was like the sun was literally sitting on the end of my nose. The drive into work wasn't that bad since I had my sunglasses on but when I arrived at work and went to look at my calendar for the day, my screen was like me looking at an impressionist painting (lots of swirls and colors). It was such a surreal feeling. I had to go out and ask Mrs. Spence to read my calendar to me so I knew when I had to be where.
Luckily for me, I don't have to go back for another year and I don't need glasses. Did you know that you have to buy frames and then the lenses separately? Wouldn't they be a package deal?
Anyway, on behalf of The Principal Chronicles, Cherokee Trail Elementary, and the letter J, have a wonderful break and a Happy Holiday Season. We will see you on the other side when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
