THIS IS HOW WE CTE!

FROM MUSIC - GEORGE HALLEY

Choir will be starting on Tuesday September 27th!
Choir will be for students in grades 4th, 5th and 6th and be capped at 45 students for the winter semester. Rehearsals will be in the music room in the mornings from 7:40-8:25 on Tuesdays between September 27th and December 6th. We will be performing our winter concert on December 6th at 6pm.  More information and the sign up google form can be found on Mr. Halley's music page on the CTE website and also HERE.
Also, directing a choir is challenging enough without having to play the piano at the same time, so if a parent would like to volunteer to be our piano accompanist for the choir season that would be greatly appreciated!

SEPTEMBER COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER

Hello Families!  We are off to a great start to this school year!  Over the past few weeks, I have visited every class in grades 3-6 to talk about my role as a school counselor and how I can support them.  I will be visiting the rest of the students over the next few weeks to do the same.  Our lesson included what domains I work with students in (social/emotional, career, academic).  I also shared that I visit classes to teach lessons and meet with some students in small groups or individually.

Classroom teachers also teach weekly lessons from our social-emotional learning curriculum called Second Step.  Second Step’s units cover skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving.

Does your child need additional support to learn/practice social skills?  Denver Behavioral Consultants facilitate social skills groups in the Parker area. Click for more information

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles Continue ....
As I write this, our 6th-grade students literally just pulled out of the parking lot on their way to Outdoor Ed. It always amazes me how much stuff they bring along, you'd think our Outdoor Ed facility was in Antarctica. Luckily we have a big bus to house all of their stuff and our overall 6th grade group is pretty small. They are so excited, and as I told them as they pulled away, I hope they maximize the experience. Next week, I'll have some pretty good stories to share about their time down there. With me not having an assistant principal anymore it makes it impossible to spend as much time at Stone Canyon as I want to; there are just too many things going on here that I can't miss. I am planning on going down after school today to spend some time as I love seeing them away from school.

On the personal side, we hosted some friends from California last weekend. It was great to see them and had lots of fun things planned. On our first night, we attended the Dave Matthews Concert. I am not a huge Dave fan but one of our friends has seen him in concert a number of times so she was psyched to see him perform. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't awesome as it was a slow drizzle of rain the entire time. Why didn't I pack a coat you might ask? Well, if you must know, I brought several different layers of clothing to keep myself dry and warm. However, none of the people I went with brought anything so by the time I shed all of my layers to keep everyone else warm, I was left with a t-shirt and a light long sleeve shirt. Yes, I was freezing. Yes, I was wet, and yes it made the concert a lot less enjoyable. Luckily, our hot tub is finally operational so afterward a dip in there saved the day.

The next morning our friends wanted to go for a hike in the mountains so I picked a gorgeous hike outside of Georgetown that had streams, lakes, and lots of great views. What I didn't think about was the difference in altitude from Denver to California. This particular hike goes above 10,000 feet so I nearly killed them due to the lack of oxygen. Again, the hot tub saved the day. It is amazing what hot water can do for someone. Note to self: when hiking with friends from California, stay local. Words to live by my friends.

That is it for this week's edition, Stay tuned for next time when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
