Cherokee Trail Elementary Families! Our 9th annual 2021 CTE Fun Run fundraiser kicks off this week!
The Fun Run is Tuesday, September 21st! Every student will receive a t-shirt the day of to wear while they run! Don't forget your running shoes and water bottle. Each grade will run out on the field during their specials, families are welcome to come cheer them on!
Run schedule:
5th grade 8:45am
4th grade 9:25am
3rd grade 10:05am
2nd grade 10:45am
1st grade 11:35am
kindergarten 12:15pm
6th grade 2:00pm

EPICER @ CTE THIS WEEK
At Cherokee Trail, we focus on six character traits; teaching and fostering them in our classrooms in order to create learners who are strong both academically and socially. They are:

Each month we focus more closely on one trait - this month's EPICER trait is: EMPATHY.

What’s Happening in Social Emotional Wellness?
This week in Social Emotional Wellness we are developing an understanding of how our thoughts, emotions, and actions affect others. A deeper self-awareness of the power of our thoughts, emotions, and actions allows us to build better relationships and develop stronger self-management skills.
SEPTEMBER COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER
The school year is officially underway! I am currently in the process of finishing up visiting each class to teach a lesson about building a classroom community and relationships. I have also had the pleasure to meet with our newest students to Cherokee Trail. It has been fantastic to see the students again!
All CTE students receive the Second Step curriculum weekly taught by their classroom teacher or myself. Weekly lessons teach social-emotional learning skills with 4 different units.
Unit 1- Growth Mindset & Goal Setting
Unit 2- Emotion Management
Unit 3- Empathy & Kindness
Unit 4- Problem Solving
As the counselor, I have the privilege of providing support to every student at CTE. Confidentiality is respected, unless they plan on hurting themselves, hurting someone else, or someone is hurting them. Although I do not require parental consent, if you would like to request I meet with your child for a specific concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER
The Principal Chronicles continue ... As I write this, I just gave our 6th grade students the Outdoor Ed pep talk and wished them a fun-filled trip. It was so nice for them have the opportunity to go this year. Especially after last year's group did not have the same opportunity. I plan on heading down later today to spend some time with them this week. It makes it a bit hard with no Assistant Principal here so I won't be able to go down as much as I would like, but any time is still fun. Other than that, we are coming up on our first professional development day (Friday, Sep 24th) and we have so much to talk about. Time just flies by once school begins so it will be a good day to catch up on some things as well as be able to get some learning time in.
On the home front, I took my dad golfing this past weekend to celebrate his 77th birthday. He is at the age now where he has everything and I am now focused on more experiences rather than gifts. As many of you know, I am a terrible golfer and find the sport as a whole to be very frustrating, but my dad likes it a lot so it was a good opportunity to spend some time with him. In addition, I also got a golf cart so my daughter could practice her driving, since, in just under two years she will be driving a CAR which is very scary in its own right.
I took my dad to the Family Sports Center, which I would say is like baby golf and not anything like the big boy golf most people play. Other than taking about five mulligans a hole it was a lot of fun, and I know he had a really good time which is what I wanted all along. Plus no one cares how bad I am, which is always appreciated.
