EPICER @ CTE THIS WEEK

At Cherokee Trail, we focus on six character traits; teaching and fostering them in our classrooms in order to create learners who are strong both academically and socially. They are:

Enthusiasm

Perseverance

Integrity

Courage

Empathy

Respect

Each month we focus more closely on one trait - this month's EPICER trait is: EMPATHY.

   * I actively listen to others to understand their feelings and the situation

   * I  can put myself in someone else’s shoes

   * I notice clues about how others are feeling: their words and body language

   * I celebrate how I am the same and how I am different from others

   * I consider other people's feelings/wants/needs when I act

SEL/WELLNESS INFO - NOELLE DUNKER

What’s Happening in Social Emotional Wellness?
This week in Social Emotional Wellness we are developing a deeper understanding about the importance of our breath as a strategy for regulating our nervous system when experiencing strong emotions.  Our breath is a built-in fidget that is always with us.

SEPTEMBER COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER

The school year is officially underway! I am currently in the process of finishing up visiting each class to teach a lesson about building a classroom community and relationships. I have also had the pleasure to meet with our newest students to Cherokee Trail. It has been fantastic to see the students again!
All CTE students receive the Second Step curriculum weekly taught by their classroom teacher or myself. Weekly lessons teach social-emotional learning skills with 4 different units.

Unit 1- Growth Mindset & Goal Setting

      Unit 2- Emotion Management

      Unit 3- Empathy & Kindness

      Unit 4- Problem Solving
As the counselor, I have the privilege of providing support to every student at CTE. Confidentiality is respected, unless they plan on hurting themselves, hurting someone else, or someone is hurting them. Although I do not require parental consent, if you would like to request I meet with your child for a specific concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
I look forward to a great school year and supporting all our wonderful students at CTE!  Feel free to email me @ [email protected].

UPCOMING CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles continue ... I have to start with how nice it was to have a three-day weekend. I don't think I would want one every weekend, but it is nice to have it sprinkled in now and again, especially ones with really nice weather.
On the school front, we have one of my favorite activities coming up: the Chap Homecoming Parade. For my new readers, the homecoming parade is awesome! Families from all over our community come and sit along the route while the parade participants throw candy out to them. It's like Halloween in September. The parade will be around Chaparral HS on Monday starting around 5. Come out and cheer for us and walk away with copious amounts of candy. Who doesn't love copious amounts of candy?
On the personal front, during this past weekend, my daughter picked out her homecoming dress. Since she was with her mom, I wasn't there to voice my opinion. She sent me a picture of her choice. I was a bit disappointed it wasn't a MuMu with floral prints that would be a sure-fire way to keep the boys at bay. Her dress looks great so I am either going to have to suck it up and trust her, or somehow figure out a way to chaperone the Legend homecoming dance. I'll probably go with the former. Sounds like her date is taking her to Mt. Fuji for dinner which is going to be hilarious since they don't have pizza or buttered noodles on the menu. Guess she is going to have to expand her pallet prior to going. As always I am never sure I am ready for all of this.
That is it for this week's episode. Stay tuned next week when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
