FAMILIES IN NEED OF FOOD - JANE STEINER

Hello Cherokee Trail Families,

As we are moving through this challenging time together, the Food and Nutrition Department is providing a wonderful resource for ALL kids and teens. Free grab and go lunches will be provided at Challenger Park Monday-Friday from 11:30-12:30 to all kids and teens. Click here for more info.

We are partnering with the Parker Task Force to see how we can assist families who are in need of additional food. If your family is in need of additional food support, please email Jane Steiner, School Counselor at [email protected]. We are hoping to have the additional food available at Challenger Park for family pick up on a set weekly day. Additional information will be provided to families after a list is compiled.

We will all get through this with the support of each other!

MARCH COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER
I am looking forward to beginning a series of lessons on bullying in 3rd grade classes this month. The lessons will focus on providing information about bullying and role-playing responses to various scenarios. I also plan on including literature to reinforce situations through story characters.
In 6th grade, we are in our final Second Step unit “Serious Peer Conflicts”. Our lessons are focused on understanding different perspectives, handling peer conflict, making amends, and gratitude. Media Tips for Parents:

FROM THE AP - ROBIN HUNT
Wow ... do we miss our kiddos! Life just isn’t the same without our students being around as part of our lives. That being said, our staff wants to thank everyone for their patience as we learn new platforms for instruction. For some, it’s been a steeper learning curve than for others, but we are all committed to supporting our families. Please don’t hesitate to connect with any of us if you need anything. Many of our teachers are keeping office hours to better manage their work and personal lives. As you can imagine, managing toddlers and newborns at home while teaching is new for us. Thank you for your understanding through this time. CMAS has been cancelled for this school year. We received official word from the federal government this week. It is no longer paused, but rather cancelled. Wish Week is still on hold until further notice. We are so sad that these events aren’t a part of our immediate future. Our administrative team (Josh Miller, Ashley Jakubowski, and me) wants you to know that we are here to support our school community as best we can ... this includes staff, students, families, and community. If you know of a need, please reach out to us. We have many resources available to us and we can connect them as needed.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
 - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles continue ... For the first time in the history of the Chronicles, I am writing thEM from my dining room at home. I spent the first part of my morning trying to set up a home office and it took some figuring out that's for sure (I already miss my standing desk at CTE). This past week has been a pretty rough one in the Miller household. The week started with a mad rush at the end of school trying to get out tech devices all while trying to manage the multitude of COVID information being passed along. From there it was packing up all kinds of things because no one knew when we would be back. That was a strange feeling for sure. Once Spring Break actually started our dog George started his week-long tailspin. First, he became very bloated in his hind legs. He looked just like a lightbulb. We took him in to the vet and found nothing wrong with him so they gave him some meds and sent him on his way. The meds gave him diarrhea which in turn led him to start having seizures again because he couldn't keep down his seizure medication. The breaking point came when he had six seizures in 24 hours. Poor guy, it was a long day and night for all of us. We went back to the vet to get some new medications that thankfully worked (so far). Just when we thought we were in the clear George went outside during the snowstorm and cut his front and back feet on some metal edging outside. He came running in and our house looked like a murder scene with bloody footprints all over the house. So off to the animal emergency room we went at 9:30 PM. Finally at 1:00 AM George was all stitched up and we were able to come home to begin the fun and excitement of trying to keep his bandages dry when the weather outside was extremely wet. That is a story for another day. This past weekend, I decided to drive up to see my parents in Estes. My Grandma is in hospice so I thought it would be a good idea to go spend some time up there since we may be quarantined in the future and I knew my parents were struggling with the soon to be passing of my Grandmother. My first day in Estes was booked solid with online meetings as it was the planning day before school was to begin. So many unanswered questions and so much to try and figure out. The stress of that coupled with the altitude coupled with the stress of the past week coupled with the stress of my Grandmother in hospice was a bit much for me. I gradually started to feel nauseous and my head began to ache. By noon, my head was pounding and I was on the verge of throwing up. All I could do was lay down in my parent's basement where it was completely dark. After doing some research into my condition, it was determined I was experiencing my first ever migraine headache. Hopefully, it was my last because that experience was awful. I basically laid in the dark with a pounding headache from 1:00 PM until around 9:00 PM. By then I was finally able to fall asleep. I slept until 4AM and then woke up feeling all right so I decided to drive home so I could be ready for "school" Tuesday morning. As I write this, I finally ate for the first time since breakfast yesterday and although I am pretty weak, I feel much better. Thank goodness it wasn't anything related to COVID. Well, that is it from the personal front. On the school front, we are beginning a new frontier. We have asked our staff to do something they have never done before: be teachers from the confines of their own homes. They have been working extremely hard and are doing their best to meet the needs of our students. In the weeks to come, we will get better and better with what we are trying to do. Please be patient with us and thank you as always for supporting us. This is a new experience for all of us. Take care and stay healthy. Until next time when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
