SCHOOL MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
School Counseling is a service offered at CTE and all students will participate (more info). At CTE we have two, full-time mental health professionals: Sara Heim-Smit - school psychologist Jane Steiner - school counselor
OCTOBER COUNSELOR'S CORNER - JANE STEINER
Our 4th grade students have been busy learning about Mindfulness from the MindUp curriculum.  Mrs. Dunker and myself are presenting weekly lessons that teach self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making.  We have been learning about the different parts of the limbic system in the brain and how they work together to manage our emotions. Throughout the school year, I will be introducing Mindfulness concepts in the other grade levels as well. If you are interested in reading a fantastic book about how a child’s brain develops and responds to emotions, I highly recommend reading The Whole-Brain Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child’s Developing Mind” by Daniel Siegel. If you are interested in additional Mindfulness resources, check these out! * cosmickids * mindful.org * childmind.org * leftbrainbuddha * greatergood   * gonoodle

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
 - JOSH MILLER

The Principal Chronicles continue ... The cooler evenings are here and the sun is going down earlier. Fall is in the air. Funny thing, most people associate fall with football but since I only have girls (and a whole heap of animals) sports is never on the television (ever). Having said that, the other day, both of my girls were at their other houses and my significant other wasn't home so I was able to actually watch a few minutes of the Bronco's game this past weekend. I can't even remember the last time I was able to even have sports on in my house. Sadly, I am in charge of paying the cable bill in our house and yet the television focuses on cooking shows and Heartland. What is even more sad, is that about five minutes after watching the game, I was bored out of my mind. First thought, after I realized I was bored, was how sad am I that I somewhere lost my ability to sit and watch sports? Did I lose my man card? Did I just officially become my dad? These are the points that I will ponder until next week when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
